Nazareth, Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee
After breakfast we start our day trip from our hotel. Travel to Nazareth in the Galilee region. On route, hear tales of the city, known as the childhood home of Jesus, and its important role in the Christian faith.
On arrival, visit some of Nazareth’s key religious sites. Visit the Church of the Annunciation, where the Angel Gabriel visited the Virgin Mary to tell her she would be the mother of Jesus and the Church of St Joseph, built over the carpentry workshop of Mary’s husband, Joseph.
Then we spend some time in the Old City marketplace shopping for mementos and gifts from this remarkable adventure.
Continue through the village of Kafer Kana, identified as the site of Cana where Jesus performed the miracle of wine, and arrive at the Sea of Galilee, Israel’s biggest freshwater lake and the setting of many biblical tales.
At this halfway point of the tour, stop for lunch (own expense) in a restaurant in Tiberias.
Further north, pass by the Church of the Multiplication next to the Sea of Galilee. This is where the miracle of the five loaves and two fish took place in the Gospel of John. Walk along the shores of the Sea of Galilee and visit the village of Capernaum, where Jesus spent time teaching in the local synagogue. It was also the hometown of the apostles Peter, James, Andrew and John.
Pass through the waterfront city of Tiberias and arrive in Yardenit – a sacred baptism site on the Jordan River. Admire this idyllic spot, and if you wish, take part in a Christian baptism ceremony.
Finally, we return to the hotel.
